Mule Day Case XX Question

Good evening- I bought this knife and it has HORN2131 stamped but I think the handles look more like smooth black than horn. It also has 1993 etched on blade but has an 1989 Case year. I believe they must have used some old stock from Case but my main question is the handle material. Thanks for any input!

It’s Buffalo horn. Per knifedb.com:
Mule Day canoe with smooth buffalo horn handles and a double oval "CASE" block letter shield. Regular serial number on the right front bolster. The master blade work say "Columbia, Tn." by the point. Then is "MULE DAY 19 (mule) 93. Finally near the tang it says "Maury _ County _ Bridle and _ Saddle Club" with a saddle logo. The back of the small pen blade says "1 OF 500". All blade work is in a light grey etch. Since the tang stamp says 1989 and the blade says 1993, this is marked as a contradictory date knife.....

Specifically, I believe water buffalo horn. Just wanted to clarify.

Handle is not what we call buffalo here in the States; those are actually Bison. They were originally called buffalo, but in reality they are Bison.
