Up, up and away....the cost to mail a knife!!! :x :x ::td:: ::td::

The U.S. Postal Service is raising mail prices for most users. The new rates, which cover other mail items including periodicals and advertising mailers, are poised to take effect July 9 unless overruled by the postal regulator.

The 5.4 percent increase across all first-class mail products is the agency's fourth rate hike in two years. It also brings first-class mail costs up 32 percent since 2019, when a stamp ran 50 cents.

The price increases are part of Postmaster General Louis DeJoy's turnaround of the mail agency, which was facing hundreds of billions of dollars in unpayable liabilities when he took office in June 2020.

A year later, the Postal Service said it would increase rates twice annually, making up for what it said were years' worth of artificially low rates. Sending mail in the United States is still cheaper than in nearly any country in the developed world.

"As operating expenses fueled by inflation continue to rise and the effects of a previously defective pricing model are still being felt, these price adjustments are needed to provide the Postal Service with much needed revenue to achieve the financial stability," the agency wrote in a news release.

Postal finance officials also have blamed persistent inflation for increasing the agency's costs and depressing consumer spending.

:x :x All I know is that it is getting to the point where it cost about $6.50 or more to mail an 8 to 13 oz package from here to west of the Pecos. :x Not so great for a seller trying to keep costs down :( ::td::

I say that they should only raise rates for the mass mailers--advertisers, PACs, and charities. That should also cut the amount of junk mail. They are paying less than half what I would to mail a letter or packet.

Yup. It was just a few cents short of $10 to mail off my POS box last month.

That's what I experienced, Roger.

Yes, that is about right. It has crept up, up and away over the past few years, but it makes selling a $15-$20 difficult and a $10 knife impractical for me.

The guy at the local post office told me they used to raise the cost of a postage stamp only once a year at most. For the past couple of years, they have raised rates twice a year.

Correct! But it is worse than what you have stated... ::skeptic:: for the past two years in October the USPS has put it place a "seasonal rate" or some "new-speak" term like that to increase the rates until January... and the biggest joke of is that the "seasonal rate" ends on say 01/24/23 ... then on 01/26/23 the new rate increase begins for the year! ::facepalm:: .... What a joke. ::facepalm:: ::dang:: :x :x ::td:: ::td::

Here we go again! The United States Postal Service recently announced upcoming changes to their shipping rates, effective in July. These changes will impact the cost of sending packages and letters. Here’s the breakdown effective Monday July 1, 2024:

Ground Advantage for packages under 1 pound (ounce-based) will see a small increase, averaging 0.2% but some rates could go up by as much as 33 cents.

Ground Advantage for packages over 1 pound will have a 2% price hike, with individual rates potentially increasing up to $2.11.

Ground Advantage Cubic pricing will go up by an average of 3%, with some rates rising by as much as $1.67.
Priority Mail will see a 5% average increase, with some rates going up to $3.10 more.

Priority Mail Flats will have a 4% average bump, with individual rates potentially increasing up to $1.18.

The biggest increase is for Priority Mail Cubic, with a 10% average rise and some rates going up to $2.97 more.

Hey I don't even mind the rate hikes, know they are neccessary. But I used to get packages from all over the country in 2-3 days. Now it's 5-7. So the service is going way downhill, slower and slower, the price is getting higher. The old system that got it here in 2-3 days was waaaaaaay mo betta. IMHO.
