Apparently, all sellers will be enrolled in this program. You can manually opt out of it. Sellers don't have to pay postage for refunds and are protected from negative and neutral feedback. Very interested to see how all of this works out.



Over the next few weeks you will be automatically enrolled into eBay International Shipping, a new program designed to make the process of international selling and shipping more convenient and cost-effective.

eBay International Shipping retains all the elements of the eBay Global Shipping Program and eBay international standard delivery, and provides these additional features:
• eBay handles returns. If a buyer wishes to return an item, eBay will provide them with a return label and issue a refund, at no cost to you. The seller keeps the sale.
• No international selling fees. There are no international selling fees on items sent through the eBay international Shipping program.
Once enrolled, your new listings will automatically default to eBay International Shipping and any existing Global Shipping Program listings will be automatically updated.


Simple shipping process
Just get your sold items to our domestic hub any way you like, and we’ll handle the international leg of the journey.

Enhanced seller protections
Once your item is at our hub, you’re protected against claims like Item Not Received, chargebacks, and negative or neutral feedback.

I already opted out of this program this afternoon. I have never heard anything positive about it and mostly negative here on the forum.
You can go through many steps to opt out, they aren’t making it easy.
It sounds great the way they describe it but I don’t know if they have improved this program since the last time anyone here discussed it?

I just went in and opted out of the program. Fact is I already sell a lot of items internationally and it's all unintentional, as I stipulate no international shipping. Many of the Zippo lighters I sell ship to a PO box number in Portland, Oregon. From there most of them go to the east. I got a message from a buyer in Malayasia thanking me for the item, even though I had no direct dealings with them. I thought I was in trouble when they addressed me as Mr. Sir. I assume one person living in Portland spearheads this and sends the item on to their final destination. I don't think the new program will affect this activity at all. I assume others in different locations provide this same service. I've sold some knives on here to Jon in England and all of that has went smoothly. I've seen where sellers state plainly they will not ship to China and wonder if there are not a lot of problems there? Does anyone on here have experiences on international shipping to share?

Over the 3 years, my wife and I have been "downsizing" things in our home. For one, decluttering. Two, extra cash as we are paying for our oldest daughter's college in cash, no loans, and with rate increases it's been great selling off things to make the diff. I don't like the high fees, but I looked at it like this: garage sale = pennies on the dollar. craigslist/online = meeting folks in Menard's parking lot. ebay = usually decent gross price, but fees/shipping knock it down to about 60% +/- net profit.

Point is, I'm a casual seller on ebay -- I have a few things on there now. Couple times last year, I sold a few things to folks overseas. As mentioned, it goes to a warehouse in either Oregon or New Jersey, sort of like a forwarder. I was charged international fees, making expenses higher. Bottom line, I didn't have any problems the few times my junk was sold overseas. However, I'm not a business like many of you folks here. I sold maybe a dozen knives, but mostly what we sold were vintage glassware, models (when I used to have hundreds of car models), old car parts, and tons of other random things form the house.

You have me wondering if I need to opt out. But then, i only have like 6 things for sale on ebay now --- sort of the end of the line of what we were selling there.

I used eBay global shipping a few times in past years and it was pricey for the buyers. The program saved me a lot of money from some lost shipments/questionable buyers. I will continue to utilize the service.

Just 2 weeks ago I sent a message to ebay complaining about the lack of international shipping by many sellers with more and more happening everyday, is it possible this is related to this change they're incorporating, it would seem odd they would act so quickly?
The Global Shipping Program is very flawed with numerous complaints of lost or empty packages, ESPECIALLY knife packages, and I refuse to use it even for a knife I REALLY REALLY want, and it's overly expensive to boot.
If somehow we find out that this change had anything to do with my complaint, I apologize to anyone who is adversely affected by it, I'm just trying to make more knives available to me up here in the Great White North!

I'll have to opt out as soon as I remember. There isn't much I want to get rid of that will be sold on eBay anyway.

Don't forget your 1099K from Uncle Sam, ... so you can explain to the IRS why you received over $600 from eBay in one year trying to get rid of your personal stuff

Yup. The good ole 1099-K. Got it! I created a headache for our accountant, as she hates doing ebay sales. I do keep a spreadsheet, it's base data that's download CSV file from ebay, so i can show/add expenses and COGS. Spreadsheet helps a ton.

Personally, I don't agree with taxes on personal selling, i.e. selling junk/collectibles from the house. In IL, they want you to report garage sale "sales". I mean, come on. The local monthly flea market, which I've set up and sold at maybe 6 or 7 times in the past 20 years, now requires a tax ID to set up. No more getting rid of stuff, selling off estates, etc -- you gotta be a legit business to set up at the flea market.

Bottom line for me, I may not like the rules, but I know them and play by them.

You are correct! The price to be paid when NOT complying with the endless stream of rules and regulations levied upon us by OUR Gov't tends to be punitive and there in is the tool for coercion that bends the individual citizen to the will of the Gov't.

An acquaintance of mine is allowed Two (2) yard sales a year by his city and must PAY for a $15 permit each time to sell his old junk at a 90% loss and after ALL of that he is actually required to report any money received at the yard sale as "income" to the IRS... he may not pay them a penny, BUT his REQUIRED BY LAW to report it.

Feels great to live in the "freest" country in the world...don't it?
