Not too many punch jacks with this curved punch. These are tang stamped Cattaraugus Little Valley N.Y. but I am sure their cousin made them.

More than likely the other way around - Cattaraugus likely made them for Case Brothers. Theresa Case was married to J.B.F. Champlin who owned Cattaraugus. Her brothers were employed there. When they left and subsequently formed Case Brothers they initially had no manufacturing and operated as jobbers, having knives made for them by others, with the Case Brothers stamp. One of the makers was probably Cattaraugus, among others. That situation lasted for at least a couple of years until they were able to obtain the means to do their own manufacturing.

All I was going by, never saw one of these in a Cattaraugus book but Case had it in their catalog early.

My only white burnt bone Cattaraugus. Tang stamped 22248 on the back side of the master clip blade. Mint.

Very nice, Jkb. 😎👍

Price & Zalesky say it's a 2224B because of the burnt bone. They say a 22248 is white bone.

I always begin my opinion posts with," I'm not SURE about anything."
Just noting the fact that the Case has a long pull while the Catts have thumb nicks.
Also, Case did contract Catt before they got going on their own.
Again, ::shrug:: They're both great knives.Nice to see them. J.O'.

Jacknifeben, Congratulations on your Catt. The white burned bone is very distinctive and appealing.

FWIW: My copy of Price's book says, Cocobolo, Fancy Fiberloid, and Burnt Bone are all "7" in the last digit.
Ritchie and Stewart say "B" is burnt bone if it's part of the pattern number, and if there is a dash between, ("-B"), it's blue celluloid.
Dewey Ferguson says "B" is a bale.
Hope everybody's clear on this. There's a test later. ::doh:: J.O'.

It's like the old Economists joke. Ask 4 economists (Catt collectors) a technical question and you'll get 5 answers. Again, I'm never SURE of anything, except that I'm having fun. ::handshake:: J.O'.
