All About Pocket Knives

I received a terrific assortment of various knives from Beresman in this year's POS exchange. (Thanks again Brent!) Among the haul was a Challenge Cutlery, Bridgeport CT (1905-1928) big, double-end jack that needed lots of TLC, and I finally got my bench cleared to work on it this week. The first 3 pics are obviously before I got started. Aside from needing new scales (covers), both blade tips were "peeking" above the edges of the liners (very dangerous for your pockets), the business ends of both springs were resting well below the edges of the liners and, and there was little to no snap, and a few other issues. I used gabon ebony for the scales and steel pins to match the original, very solid, all-steel construction of this big, old dawg. Of course, one of the pin heads had to show its ugly face in one of the bolsters. Such is life.

Great redo on the ol challenge herb. Blades are in pretty good shape! I like the ebony scales too.

I wouldn't call it a jack, but a moose pattern. Nice old knife.

How did you fix the blade peek ??

Thanks Chris. For both blades, I filed some off each kick, which makes the blade sit lower in the blade well. But, as you can see from the pictures, the nail nick (pull) on each one is still visible just above the liners. I couldn't take any more off either kick or the nail nick would no longer be accessible. This was enough for the clip, but the other blade still was sitting out a bit, so I reprofiled the tip until it was just below the edge of the liner. I prefer the way that tip looks now anyway.
