I assessed my knife usage

Over the past month I kept a note every time I used a blade what type of blade I used and the task I used it for. The results I found were quite interesting. Most of my usage was opening Amazon packages general mail items. Other usages were occasionally breaking down cardboard boxes or cutting zip ties or cord of some description.
all of these activities I did without using my pocket knife, I used either the blade on my multitool or my Swiss Army knife.
obviously, this would not apply to everybody but I feel I have no need to carry a pocket knife anymore. I can just carry my Swiss Army knife.

to be honest in the urban environment I live in, an SAK is more than enough. If ever I do venture out camping or hiking I will take a folder with me, but for day to day stuff a sak is fine

I was just joking with you. There are many SAK fans. I’d call a SAK a pocket knife, and a utilitarian one at that. Plus you’ll be one of the many I see often, when they come to me and say “can I borrow your knife?”

Curious what this pocket knife is that you no longer need, and how you carry your SAK if not in your pocket?

If you didn’t carry your multitool or SAK, you would use your pocket knife more. Making it essential again.

If you were a pilot, would you stop taking a parachute because you didn’t use it for a month?

I carry a sharp midsize folder and a larger automatic Gerber at work. Often I don’t even use the smaller because of the ease of the pocket clip push button knife I have, but if I didn’t have the Gerber the other would be a lot of use(and abuse). I will say I own several SAK’s and they are darn handy “Pocket Knives”.

I just like the variety of switching around - Stockman one day, Canoe the next, then maybe a Trapper - and I have an electrician’s knife I include in the rotation, as well as a multi-tool knife and some others.

I generally have a flipper or automatic in my pocket when out a about on the ole homestead, they are just as handy as pockets on a shirt when you are holding something in one and have a need to cut something. I ain't got nothing against Saks pocket knives got several and carry them on occasion. I personally don't care for the utility things like the Leatherman although I've got one in every vehicle for emergencies and such, I find them hard to open and uncomfortable to use while whittling, of course most people don't whittle alot anymore they just ain't got the time I reckon, but it a mighty fine way to relax and make little sticks and shavings out of big ones.Ymmv. ::handshake::

I feel naked when out without a pocket knife or some other kind of knife on me. If not cutting something, I may just fiddle with the knife in my pocket, sort of like a worry stone even though I'm not prone to worrying.

When I carry a multi-tool, I still carry a pocket knife.

There are two types of men in this world, those that carry and know how to use a knife, and those that need to borrow a knife when they need one.

Does this mean you're going to stop using the forum and all it has to offer, and concentrate strictly on threads about SAK's? ::shrug::
Same principle!

I agree bighomer on the whittling being relaxing. I find sitting down with a small whetstone and sharpening my knife is really relaxing to me also!
