All About Pocket Knives

here's one i did few years ago , customized it myself with 1/16" mirror polished 304 stainless steel, funny i cut the rough shape of liners with a hack saw , took off the originals traced them on the stainless then cut them out but cuut them so that the mirror polish will be on inside of liner so when you look into well of knife it looks like a mirror, i finished up the rough cut edges with belt sander to make them same size and shape as original liners, when i put the button assembly in the sear just poked through the liner barely enough to keep blade from locking shut so i had to channel out the liner some with a dremmel tool so sear would go through hole far enough to keep blade closed , i only had channel out the front bottom part of the button assembly so that when i put the handles back on the button was in same place as factory but since i put the red carbon spacer between the horn and liners it made everything work perfectly and i basicly got lucky , this is my best work i think and im proud of it as ive done few more just like this but different style knives (stiletto's ,leverlocks, swinguards , gravity etc...) and they didnt turn out as good as this one yea its not perfect but i did it myself

hey thanks , i have to agree the red spacers really make it look nice especially with the red dot safety looks cool. i had seen a custom knife years ago and the maker put these type red spacer between liner and horn and i really liked it and wanted a knife done just like that so i did it myself , i ordered the carbon fiber spacer cut it and glued it to liners so it wouldnt move around at all them assembled the knife , i think it looks awesome . i originally had bought some blue carbon fiber and red carbon fiber i got them from the K&G site , havent used any of the blue yet .

I had to disassemble, repair, and then reassemble my 11" AGA Campolin Maltese lockback at one point, and since I didn't know what I was doing after 3 unsuccessful tries I sent it to Muskratman to do the work.
Unless you have the skills and proper tools these repairs can go badly, at least for me they did.
I did feel a certain satisfaction for the things I did right though!

what did you have to repair on the maltese ? they arent really hard to fix . i know how to do handles and springs but i hate doing them so i have a friend who does them for me as he has all the right tools to do the job but me myself have customized over 50 maybe 60 knives that i sold on auctions didnt ever have too much problems with tearing them down then re-assembling them. im pretty sure i got peening down good by assembling all the knives over the years probably assembled over maybe 500+ stiletto knives so did get some good practice.

When I receive the Maltese brand new from Jon at Roadsideimports.com , it fired very lazily and didn't feel like it was locking-up properly, and when I told this to Jon he said "that knife is notorious for having weak springs, plus, they're assembled by 80 yr. old men and it depends on how much wine they drank prior to the assembly as to how they turn out", so he was no help whatsoever. He had a long standing policy of no returns so that was out. It sat for awhile til I got ambitious and decided to try to fix it myself. When I got it apart the brass liners had "banana'd" from the horn covers shrinking up, which was likely due to it sitting in the Sun on the shelf at Roadside for years before I bought it. I flattened the liners and built kirinite covers successfully, as well as customizing the rocker/sear mechanism and new faux sapphire button. It was going fairly well til the peening which I just couldn't get right and as a result it was sloppy when reassembled. I tried 2 more times but it never turned out much better. That's when I sent it to Muskratman. I didn't have the necessary skills or the correct tools, so it was either send it for repair or eat the US$200. it cost me. The pictures are M/man's results, new ebony wood covers and eliminate the safety, and reassembly, and it now operates the way it was meant to!
