Providence Cut Co knives

Picked up a Providence Barlow a while back cheap at a yard sale and became interested in the brand. Inexpensive users with half stops some with slanted bolsters and take a wicked edge. Nothing very special about them. I'm guessing made in the 70's or 80's.
They fit right in with my Colonial collection. If anyone knows any more info on them I'd like to hear it.

This is the one Prov Cut Co I have in my collection, it was the Camp Master name tag I was after mostly so I haven't looked into Prov Cut Co much to share more info, but its a cool little knife. This one doesn't have the half stops, too bad. It's part of a set in this thread too.

All I can tell you Nick is that the knives look great, and would look even better if they only had the spear-point blade and not the pen blades, but thats just my personal preference.

Thanks Mark, I really like the spear points but find myself actually using the small pen blade the most.

Nick, I think this is the only Providence I have. Marked with the “Premier” logo on the pile side cover, which is why I got it several years ago. Looks unused but the covers are shrinking.

That doesn't surprise me Nick, as I said, the single spear-point blade is just a preference of mine, I'm sure plenty of guys including yourself find lots of uses for the smaller blades.

I have several vintage Prov Cut Co marked knives. I have not seen a tang stamp identifier for Providence Cutlery Co. like there is for Schrade, Case, Imperial, Queen, Colonial etc. though. The date range is large so unless the owner remembers when they bought the knife, if they got it new, there is no way to nail down the exact date. You can tell on some that they are an older, vintage knife just by its appearance and design, but determining the exact date of manufacture is difficult...

Here is a Providence cutlery display I restored years ago for my display collection. (cutlerycollectors.com) I have never seen another one. The knives I finally acquired show a decent mix of patterns.

I have a Providence Cutlery Co. in a congress frame. It was made in Germany.
3 3/8" closed. Reprofiled main blade. 1890 - 1915

This is the most recent thread I can find on Providence, so I’ll post this here. I’ve looked everywhere for info on Providence Cutlery tang stamps. Of course I’m interested in the different tang stamps used and dates as well as can be determined. I’ve searched the Forum. I figure it’s gotta be here somewhere, right? (BTW, not the German knives)

This is the only one I have, a camper/scout type 4 blade. It is shell handle very similar to Forest Master or Kamp King knives except the tabs that hold the shell handles on are internal. This is probably a later one that those shown above.

Here is an unusual one: a miniature fixed blade with a folder in the handle. Background is 1 in.squares.

I have one similar to that here somewhere. The “fixed blade” is a letter opener. The handles on mine are celluloid.
