$11,000 William Henry, a work of art.

I subscribe to the emails from William Henry knives. I enjoy seeing these works of beauty and art that WH creates. I own a few, none this expensive, and always admire the craftsmanship and materials that they use. This knife is called Mt Fuji. Uses Chad Nichols Damascus blended with Gibeon meteorite for the blade, making the blade very unique. The handles are jade with gold Makie embellishments forming Mt Fuji and the flowers.
I know some will think “what a waste of money” and that this is beyond 99% of us to purchase, but it just shows how far the art and craftsmanship of knife making can go. You can buy old shell knives or spend a few hundred on GEC’s or spend over 10k on one of these or over 30k on a Bob Loveless, knife collecting has something for everyone.
Also, they only made 3 of these.

That's a real stunner Mark. I view W/H knives at Arizona Custom Knives everyday and drool, but this is the most expensive I've seen to date. If I was independently wealthy I'd have no problem shelling out that kind of bucks for these knives, but since that's not the case I'll be satisfied with the knives I can afford. They may have beauty going for them, but I have "unusual" going for me, and I'd much rather be me. A question if you know; what does the button do, linerlock release, automatic blade release, or.....? Thx!

The button is a release. It’s nice to look at and dream about, but not practical. You can buy a whole lot of other knives for that kind of money.

I think this truly extends into the realm of "Art" ... as the title of the post states. And that being the case, then $11,000 might not be unreasonable. I have friends that can't believe I spent $250 on a GEC...
they think I am nuts (
and in fact, that might be the case
). I can tell you one thing for sure... it is absolutely beautiful!

You are right Top Dog. It is art, but if you were inclined you could use it, but who would want to damage that beauty?
When I first started collecting knives my wife didn’t understand, to her a knife was a knife. Then she started handling some that I would go on and on about, now she get’s it. She has even helped me put together my knife displays for the wall. She no longer questions why I spend so much on knives. Plus she has a stash of knives now of her own that she has around the house and in her purse.

I was at Garden of the Gods in Colorado a few months ago and I saw my first William Henry knife. They had several for sale in the gift shop. I came very close to buying one that I remember to be in the $650 range. But I had just bought a new rifle in the last month or so so my wife made a face when I mentioned it. I did get to handle it and I can see what all the fuss is about. They are very much a work of art, but the people behind the counter swore that they were very capable of being an EDC. And then the deal about sending them back to the factory and the factory sending them back to the Japanese sword makers to be sharpened made it even more interesting to me.

William Henry does indeed produce fine works of art. And they’re more than capable of being used as an EDC, if you are so inclined and can afford to do so. They are not alone however. As a longtime subscriber to
Knife Magazine every issue has a centerfold of multiple beautiful works of art by custom cutlers. Most are not as expensive as the OP knife, but unfortunately still waaaay beyond the reach of my meager pocketbook. I just look and drool!
Some folks whose very lives may depend on their knives will (justifiably IMHO) spend thousands on a custom knife for an EDC. See Jay Fischer’s web site for example (his works of art can be seen there also).

Although my wife hasn’t started her own collection, she tolerates my obsession. And after years of marriage I’ve learned to calculate the price of a new purse into the cost of any expensive knife I’m contemplating buying!

Since I originally started this thread there are even more expensive WH knives on their site. One is listed at 42,000. It has 24kt gold inlays. I would add a picture but I can’t get it to download to my IPad.

There’s a limit to how many purses can compensate.
If I bought that one the divorce would cost multiple times what the knife cost!

Thanks Q. I think he had one a few months ago that was over 60k. Only 2 were made. Must have sold since they are no longer listed for sale on WH site.
