All About Pocket Knives

Hey all. I'm a new member and thought I'd share a recent acquisition. Anyone out there that can verify it's "real" vs. "not" are welcome -- it just seems so nice for it's age.
1972 Case XX 6235 1/2 as shown. What do you think? Good example that was not used or ???
I ask because in my 20 years of collecting Case (and others) I've leaned toward new. Now, I've been diving into vintage and after reading some posts here, I thought I'd check. Thanks for your input!

I have that same knife, model and year. Yours is in better shape, and it certainly looks legit to me.

Nothing wrong with it. Highly unusual to see a knife that new be counterfeit. Unfortunately those are the knives the counterfeiters sometimes rework in attempt to turn them into looking like a TESTED era knife.

I wouldn’t put anything in the counterfeit forum unless pretty sure it is indeed counterfeit.

I just did that to myself with a similar knife and apparently insulted the seller unintentionally in the process. Live and learn! Apparently it’s not that unusual for Cases that old to be nearly pristine.

Knife collecting began to be a popular hobby in the late 1960s/early 1970s, largely as a result of onerous firearms laws that were being put in place, making it more difficult to collect guns. Prior to that time most knives were purchased as tools, put into the buyer’s pocket and used.

Case was one of the most popular brands with collectors. Knife collectors began buying new knives from retail dealer stock and putting them up as collectables. They were never used. Over the past decade many of those early collections are being liquidated. This forum is full of posts made by heirs of collectors asking how to sell off knife collections they have inherited.

That’s one reason you see many 1970s and 1980s mint or near mint knives. They are much more common than mint or near mint knives from earlier times - most of those earlier knives were bought to be used, not collected. An unused one is much rarer. Which is why those older ones command much higher values - the laws of supply and demand.
