Schrade Walden EO Gets Some Needed TLC

This Schrade was missing a chunk of bone on the pile side, had a small hole drilled clean thru right next to the rear pin (I have no idea why and I think this hole was too small for a lanyard) and the blades were flopping around, both sideways and up and down. Since it needed repinning, I decided to give it the full treatment. According to the chart I have, the tang stamp on this knife was used by Schrade from 1917 to 1946. The blade tangs were in very good shape, so I didn't mess with them, but the springs were worn down a lot at the contact points. I welded the lost steel back on and added about .5mm for good measure. That's why you can see the blades sitting up a bit "proud" in the last pic. She snaps like a gator now. (I borrowed the first 2 pics courtesy of the fleabay auction I got it from.)

Looks great. I had to zoom in alto see that patch, your color match and jigging are spot on.

Looks great, nice work! What did you use to fill in where the missing piece of bone was, and how did you match it up so well?

Mike, I've been using epoxy to do bone patches for a long time. It's a bit tricky, but I have a variety of powdered dyes, and sometimes I get lucky and manage to match it up fairly well. Thanks for the compliment!

Beautiful job matching color of the bone with that epoxy. That looks great and the knife is a sweetie. Great save. I think the small hole by the pin that's too small for lanyard is for a bale. Nice job Herbva.

Looks terrific, Herb! The patch and plugs are almost undetectable. I wish I had the skills necessary for such work.
