All About Pocket Knives

Well... I was gonna start on this today, to keep me occupied this weekend. However, my willpower was insufficient to last past Wednesday, so I finished up this morning

Big Ol' Schrade 163 rope knife (one of my favorite patterns, completely impractical for modern EDC ) I just LOVE the look of this style, the big square end and curved handles. Ever since I saw the schrade hawk MM did, I knew one of these would end up in my collection.





Splated Madrone handles, very simple filework (it's a work knife after all! ) NS pins and Lanyard hole. Keep your fingers away from her, she snaps like a gator!

and now, all my little children have a home

Very, VERY UNIQUE grain in that handle....

Really just OUTSTANDING!

Nice work! Did you need to stabilize that Spalted Madrone? I'ts a fairly hard wood. Reason I ask is I bought some spalted Mango and it was a must stabilize - softer than balsa wood really.

Madrone is used as firewood around here but I have taken some nice pieces out of the pile, to darn pretty to burn. Same with white oak.

The madrone was stabilized Hukk. I'm a bit on the lazy side, so I always try to work with something stabilized. It makes it alot easier to finish. I've amassed a decent little network of people who carry very good, reasonably inexpensive stabilized woods over the last few months. I don't really do enough volume to stabilized myself. A good block will last me a few knives if I'm smart about using it

Any wood that's spalted shoud be stabilized, IMO. For spalted wood stabilizing stops the spalting process an attack by fungi that changes the wood, really starts it to rot. But can't let it rot to far. Here is an interesting website I have bookmarked on producing spalted wood.

I've come to the determination that modern pants do not come with nearly enough pockets for my needs

I looked at your site, very nice! Good views of the Spalted Madrone! Hmmn, you say you'll never do a Canal Street Canittler like that again. I think if you're like most you'll look at that handle, smile at the beauty and finally you will do it again. It's part of the sickness. Keep up the good work.
