There was a post a while back regarding how the downturn in the economy and high inflation (that darn 'ol Putin... it was all HIS fault!!! ) was affecting people's knife buying habits. Well, how is 2023 looking at you kid?

been doing is very cheap to do once you are equipped, so that's what I'm primarily doing for a hobby and my
writings.

I've been spending more money on my "Books" (Mostly through amazon) lately than knives.
Your "Crown Royal" is my favorite adult beverage TOPDOG.

cudgee, I am sorry to hear that mate Prices have really shot up on everything, everywhere I guess petrol must still be a huge cost over there in Aus (I was in New Zealand years ago. I bought a car there for my "Drive About" and man, I thought petrol was expensive back then... it must be outrageous now... ... Well best of luck mate.

My knife purchases has almost come to a grinding halt. Almost. Still have my eyes open for good buys but those are hard to come by these days. Feels like I'm the only Knife-Knut around here who has cut back on spending.

Dan, I had the "Book Bug" years ago when I was making pretty good money and spent a pretty $0.01 on some beautiful books (mainly on WWII and general history). Now I am trying to read them all... I reckon' I need to live to about 120 to finish most of them.

As for the old rusting Flywheel... I have a buddy that has a used auto dealership and I got it when I was helping him clean out one of his "storage" lots on his property, so I can't say exactly what it came off. But I'll look into it my liquor cabinet and see if I can find any more Crown Royal and maybe that will help jog my memory

I've bought eight this year. Granted, one is a novelty more than anything else, and one is not staying with me. 27 have been sold on to new homes. A few more still need to go to new homes, but that'll happen in due time.

The upside is that I've largely sorted out my needs and desires. Unless I need a rugged knife for use in situations that a fixed blade might be frowned upon, I'm unlikely to buy many more locking folders. I have enough little knives (under three inches) to last a lifetime, so no more of those unless they fit into a sub-collection. With a lot of knives I seek being scarce and/or priced beyond common sense, I can always enjoy what I have.

Four knives for me, two to keep and two to trade. Mad Dog 20 20 lolol had not seen any of that since the 70s. Got a good chuckle out of that.

I’ve bought 2 older case knives so far and don’t buy a lot anymore anyway. Lookin to pass some more down to grandkids and great grandkids. I’m like you Luckydog, that md 20-20 made me think of the boones farm and the Annie green springs wine days of the 60’s/70’s. Oh yea don’t forget wild Irish rose! Ha!

One more thing, the economy sucks right now but it hasn’t affected us much. I followed my Dads advice he gave me after I got married 50 years ago. Pay your house off asap if you ever want to accumulate wealth. He was right!!

At least somebody got a laugh out of that ... that stuff is worse going down than the gasoline I siphoned out of a gas tank as a kid and swallowed about 1/2 a gallon... even that tasted better than drinking that bottle of Mad Dog 20 20...

I don’t drink alcohol, I thought MD stood for “Mogen David”…

I have only one new (old) knife in 23 so far, but I’ve bought or traded for more hatchets in the first two weeks of 23 (five) than the first two quarters of 22. Looks like building another hatchet rack is in my near future.

I don't know how many off-hand, but my knife purchases seem about the same as they always were. You certainly like your Crown Royal, don'tcha Dog! Shows you have good taste!

When you couple a greatly over-valued commodity with a completely devalued Dollar you get a 4 dot Case XX 62 delrin goin for 150 bucks. I am out. I buy a GEC or two from Frank but other than that, I have cold turkey'd my way out.

You oughta get tooled up to make your own, the good times will come right back around.
