All About Pocket Knives

Just finished sanding down some camel bone scales that I had epoxied on to so liners.

Expoy was bomber as I left it overnight so now issues there.............until I decide I did not like the look of the bone anymore so using a blow tourch I burnt the scales.

Then I noticed that the expoy at the pivot end had melted

I immediately put the knife back in the vice between two blocks of wood to tighten the scales back.

Have I screwed this or will the epoxy reset over night ??

You screwed up.
Remove the handles, sand off all the old epoxy, and start over.

I have no knowledge to give you here, other than to say that if Mr. Dishivs said it, I believe it.

But I can commiserate with you. Almost any project I tackle takes twice as long to do as it should. Mainly because I have to fix all the ways I mess up first!

Don't feel too badly Jon, even the pros make the odd mistake. Look at it this way, it's one mistake you'll never make again.

At least it’s fixable. Like Bill said, just remove the scales, clean them up and re-glue them. All you’ve lost is a bit of time.

I agree with what Bill said. But, having to do a "do-over" many times (for various reasons) I heat everything with an electric heat gun, hot enough to soften the epoxy, but not hot enough to burn anything, and then, quickly, before the epoxy hardens again, I pry off the scales and use a razor blade scraper to remove all the remnants of the epoxy. I can get almost all of the epoxy off this way and then do my sanding and cleaning with rubbing alcohol before fixing whatever was wrong and starting over.

Hey you can't use that line. That happens to me all the time! Oh and don't believe
You -Tube. My project never looks like this when opened up and the parts are always
frozen together- they never loosen with a small screwdriver or wrench.

About 3 years ago I broke off my rear driver side door handle. I must have watched
the video 5 times. I was too scared to do what they did. I am sure the inside panels
would not pop off and on as easily if I did it so I paid $100.00 to release my worries.

Master's degree or PHD yet with all the mistakes and blunders I make.

You sound a lot like me. I only do things one way: the hard way.
I haven't made that particular mistake, but I think that I have found all of the others.

I worked in the shop for several hours this past Saturday morning, and EVERY project I touched started going sideways. Each time I realized that I was about to make it worse, so I would set it aside and start on a different knife.
I could not get any of them right! It was just that kind of day!
