All About Pocket Knives

I bought a couple of these Canoe knives at the Bear and Son factory sale back in the Fall, with the "Colonel Littleton" tang stamp. Both were unfinished, and had problems with the secondary blade.
I fixed the secondary blade on this one today, then wound up messing it up badly. When I crinked it, the hammer left deep marks on the blade, as though the steel was soft. The main blade appears to be fine.
So I removed the secondary, and find that I really like the knife this slim. I may do the same to the other knife.

I always preferred a Stockman pattern until I started carrying a single blade Kershaw in the early 80s. The early AUS-8A and some of the early kershaws held an edge longer for me then carbon steel, for the most part. I had developed the habit of carrying a Stockman or other multi-bladed knife when working on a ranch as a kid. That way if one blade got dull you always had a second or a third blade to fall back on. But I am long past my time of spending all day on horseback and needing a second or third super Sharp blade to castrate with. Since I'm never that far from a sharpening device of some sort, dozens of them around my shop, I don't have to worry about a knife getting super dull. I have made a number of single bladed carbon steel knives that will hold their edge very well. Like you I prefer the slimmer profile knife in my pocket, it is much more comfortable than a 4 in Stockman! Excellent work, I think you've got to keeper!

I never have tried to crink a blade.

Looks great to me. It will be great for everyday carry.

Looks good Reverand! When you crink try using a plastic headed mallet like this, it won't mar the metal. There are generally two sizes of these. Go for the larger one as the extra weight helps.

Good idea ... I don't (yet) have one of those plastic mallets. For crinking, I''ve had good luck with just a piece of duct tape over the head of a hammer & it won't mar the blade.

I re-visited this Col Littleton, because I have decided to give it as a gift, and thought it looked a little too plain.
This propeller shield is the look I wanted!
It is slightly tilted to the left, but not too noticeable (I hope!).
Inletting into smooth bone is less forgiving than jigged bone. You can sometimes hide a slip-up in jigged bone, but not in smooth! I need to invest in a Foredom at some time. The Dremel can easily get away from you!

That shield inlay looks good!(The lean isn’t really noticeable). And it definitely dresses up that smooth bone.
