All About Pocket Knives

Looking for decent blades for a 62054 tested. I know it’s a long shot but always a chance. I have a greenbone model that I hate to just see going to waste in the drawer. Just holler at me if you have any or know a source for them. Much appreciated!!

I love those older knives. Thanks for posting the pics. Olderdogs (Tom) can probably put you on the right track for parts, but those will be hard to find. Also, the possibility of having them welded at the tang. Wouldn't that be 64052?

We collect ,they used 'em and used'em. That was a prize carry.

Yea just bob I got my 2 and 4 mixed up. 64052 is correct. #’s are worn off so found it in my 1991 Houston Price guide. It would be a great edc for sure! Who on here can weld blades on? I might go that route. I’ll contact olderdogs Tom and see if he can help me with this, Thanks for the info!

You got that right wlf. Knives were meant to be used for sure. Forgetting your knife is like forgetting your pants for me!

Aarrgghh, that poor old knife has had a hard life, needs to be buried, not resurrected. Welded blades and replaced blades don't really increase value to most collectors, I for instance would never buy such a re-worked knife nor would most of the knife guys I know.

Finding the correct blades would be difficult and expensive.
Welding is also expensive, and questionable (that is quasi-counterfeiting, IMHO).
Another alternative would be to remove the two broken blades and one backspring, and make it a User knife with two pen blades. It would still have zero collector value, but would make it an honest knife to carry.

Don't disagree, but if you have a knife you want to keep for yourself it's an option. Also, a good reason people doing this type of work are hard to contact and don't advertise. Imagine the comments they would get if their phone # was made public. I have always suspected several people were doing this type of repair but stay on the down low. $65 a blade certainly isn't cheap.

Well, I decided I am not going to weld or have them welded after all. After thinking hard about it, just doesn’t seem like the thing to do to it. Still won’t have any identifiable pattern numbers on it anyway. I resurrected an old case serpentine yrs. ago with homemade damascus blades that I made and pearl handles as a custom case. I really like how it turned out and I still carry it some these days. I would never sell it because it means too much to me. My dad helped me with this project. This greenbone case will never leave my possession either no matter what I do to it.

This is how a sentimental journey with my fathers help ended up on a case 6318 I believe, that had broken blades and handles.

Thanks Ray, my father was a gunsmith and could do just about anything he wanted to I guess. I made the blades and we installed them and he
put the pearl handles on.
Just for the record, I wouldn’t deliberately sell any knife that I knowingly knew to be altered without telling a buyer first!! That’s not me!

It's your knife do with it what you please.
If you can make blades that look as good as the ones in the MOP knife, why not do that?

I agree and planning on it. Those blades are Damascus leftovers from blade stampings from Bear MGC.

Bear had stamped out large blades and then sold what was left over. I bought 2 sheets and got enough to make a few different blades including the pocketknife ones.

That pearl is a beautiful knife!!!
And I know that it has to be even more special because you and your Dad worked on it together. Hopefully it will be a family heirloom for generations.

Thanks reverand, it will definitely be passed down along with the custom 64052 when I finish it.

I like your old knife myself and would carry it proudly. It's got some blade surface left and could be used. I'm not a collector, just an accumulator and those handles are beautiful in my humble opinion.

I am carrying it now woodwalker and using it when needed. I can’t start any redo projects till next year so I’m getting a feel for the knife in the meantime! Thanks it does have great handles!
