I am looking to identify the manufacturer and age of this knife. The tang stamp is nearly gone; but the remaining letters are CHAR.

Could that be 'Chal" ? "Challenge" ?
Charles Hall (Sheffield)
Charles Land (Sheffield)
Charles Langbein (NY)
Charles Randall(Germany)
??? Good luck. Definitely and old one.
J.O'.

It makes me think that it is in the middle of a name, like "Richards", or something. I am only going by the remains of the tang stamp, not the rest of the knife. I am not knowledgeable enough on this style to do that.

I agree with the reverand, looks like a richards Southbridge Mass. If it is they were in business 1862-1908. Opinion only, not for sure!
