All About Pocket Knives

My wife picked up a Kutmaster stockman today that that had a badly tipped main blade.
I thought I would take pictures of how I reprofile a broken blade:

1. I find and mark the center of the break. 2. I draw out an outline of where I expect to grind. 3. I grind the backside of the blade first, almost down to my line. I use a 120 grit belt on a 1x30 belt sander, keeping the blade cool by dipping it into water. 4. Then I grind the front of the blade. 5. I thin the sides of the blade just a little to restore the distal taper (not shown), then switch to a 400-grit belt and refine everything.

Great work there. Being skilled at doing that sort of work is a skill in itself.

Looks great. So many I see the people try to just grind the top and bring it to a point never changing the sharpend side. That always makes a strange looking point or off center one to me, and the way you did it spine and sharp both works perfectly.

The 2nd picture threw me for a loop for a moment! It was the picture I noticed first and the junk in the nail nick made it look like it had been cut out, same color as the background.
Your finished product looks great, a great way to salvage an old war horse!
