I know Mel Whitten personally. In fact, I am eating my birthday dinner at his house. Mel is a fabulous chef, remodeler, fisherman, boater, camper, demolition expert, and grandfather. I met met Mel when we were in Navy Seals together. My advice, nicest and calmest guy you’ll ever meet … until you cross him. Have your affairs in order. He is not from the Netherlands. He’s Pennsylvania Swiss. He learned to make knives living with the Inuit natives in the Arctic Circle. He is retired now, but finds time to do iron man marathons AND is an avid member of a knitting group. All his furniture is covered in his colorful knitting work. People who are privileged enough to see his work can only say, “I used to hate that crap, but his work is “superfluous”.

Hello Wel, Welcome to the forum. Thank you for posting that information. It is always helpful to have information like this for future reference. Any photos of Mel’s work would be appreciated. I’m especially intrigued by the knitting you mentioned. I would love to see pictures of that as well as the knives.
I doubt that the OP is still around to see this post, so I thought I would respond. Thanks again.
