I made an inquiry to Buck on the 506 and I thought I would share their response.

Dear DAVID,
This model 506 White Knight was made in 1985. It was the last year before date codes were added to the blade stamps. The "dot" signifies a running change that was made to the production process of the knife and was an indicator to the warranty department of the change that was made. Unfortunately, I do not have records of what those changes actually were. "Tribal knowledge" has decreased significantly over the years due to retirements of those who were in the know and they did a pretty bad job of documentation.

I carried a 506 for MANY years, and I still buy the 506, 505, 525, 526, etc whenever I see one for a reasonable price (which is becoming rare!)

Most older companies have had a flood or fire destroy their records. Kind of refreshing to hear, they just didn’t keep good records.

I’m sure a lot of stuff was trashed when they moved.

The 506 started out branded as the Lady Buck, but the name changed soon after to White Knight. The 505 is the same knife with a Micarta handle (later laminated wood). OH

Is the 506 past of the executive series or the slimline series?
