All About Pocket Knives

Most of you probably saw the dozen knives I came home with this past Sunday. Well I gave them all a little TLC and they look great now.
All I did on any of these knives was use a 7000 grit paper, Brasso, Murphys Oil soap, metal polish and elbow grease.

What they looked like when I bought them. Now after a bath and some gentle polishing. The biggest difference I see is in the Italian Leverlock. Here are some close-ups of a few. It sure feels good to be back cleaning and preserving knives and their history.

Nice job sir, some fine looking knives. Always feels good to take a piece of neglected cutlery and bring it back to life.

Great clean-up David. You were right, that lever lock sure came to life. I was browsing Brutalica Russian knives yesterday and came across a review by you from when you bought yours in 2021, and it sure helped sell me on the knife, as well as your endorsement when we discussed this previously. They're really nice knives too!

I didn't know there was such a thing as 7000 grit paper but it sure did a job on those knives!

Actually there is a 10K grit that I use sometimes on new wood handles at the very end of shaping them.
I don't buy sheets of that kind of sandpaper, I get the 1 inch rounds that go on my Dremel tool. They come
in grits from 40 to 10K.

I haven't found 7,000 grit, but I do have 5,000 grit wet or dry sandpaper. I believe I get it from Tru-Grit.

3M polishing paper goes up to 8,000 grit and I use that routinely. The finest abrasive I have is a paste which is 0.5 micron. A bit tough to get these days because it comes from the Ukraine. I usually use it to polish an edge by using it as the abrasive on a leather strop.

Dale we have a specialist sandpaper company here that has sandpaper sheets down to .03 Micron, i think that is about 80,000 grit.
