Could anyone tell me what steel was used on the ka bar dog head folding hunter back in 1977?

Dog Head!! As for your question I don't have a clue but wanted to let you know I was in your boat and felt the same way. I was uncomfortable posting anything but the members on this site can't be beat. CLASS ACTS all the way and will make you feel welcome. Now they would like for me to just shut up I'm sure. welcome dog head. is it stainless or carbon?

I'm pretty sure that the folding hunters were all carbon steel but I don't have a clue as to which steel they might be.

I think they were carbon. Probably something like 1095

I have one with the original box and paperwork(somewhere);I'll see if I can dig it out and if it says what type.

I probably should explain that this knife is a user. And, I'm pretty sure it's carbon as there's a fair bit of patina on the blades. It sharpens and holds an edge really well too.

There's nothing on the tangs to indicate what steel they're made of though and it's always intrigued me.

I'm afraid the box and paperwork were filed in the bin as soon as I got home from the gunshop where I bought it way back in the 70's . Back then a knife was 'just' a tool. Geez I wish I'd bought a whole load more of these then and put them away safe . But as they say hind sight is a wonderfull thing.
