All About Pocket Knives

just for conversation--i had been watching this one on ebay--it noted the crack on the shield side--then the more i looked at it looks like it has a patch in the upper right hand corner..how much does a old patch (done right) knock the price on one?? it may not even be a patch just caught my eye--ive seen some hardly noticeable ones before...

any repair can deduct significantly. i don't see that one but i'm more blind than not!

looks to me like between the bolster and the pin on the right there is a line where it just gets a lot darker
then when you enlarge the image (to me) looks like a patch

It very well could be a patch, I've seen them where you hardly see them under lighted magnification. As Johnnie says this does reduce the value.

looks like a patch to me, if you enlarge the picture you can see a line where the patch runs from the bolster, trough the pin and around. Well done patches can hardly be seen, as mentioned earlier This knife has the obvious crack accross the middle and the crack at the center pin, but it has a patch you can't see unless you look it over carefully with a glass.

Kaleb, is it on bottom at the wide part of the handle??

what was the giveaway? The jig pattern is too sharp in the patch isn't it? Not to mention it is the standard jig pattern while the original handles are Rogers.

the patch isn't as apparent in this pic, this is what you see when you look at it in person, pretty hard to see.

I wouldn't have known for sure with the naked eye, but past experience has taught me to glass any area that shows difference in color, texture etc. Sometimes such areas are just inconsistencies in the mateial but other times they can be repairs. I have seen some repairs that were so good the only way I could tell was looking for the pores in the bone.
