All About Pocket Knives

Do any of you have relatives, friends or co-workers that have shut off the news and politics period? Like have hardly any idea of anything happening? A few years ago, I read about a man who said he hadn't watched news in over 25 years and he never missed it.

I've stop watching the news .The main reason is the new on TV has turned into a current affair where the news reader not only reads the news they also gives their opinion. I just wanted to watch the news and make up my own mind .

After events like 9/11, Sandy Hook, Ulvalde, etc… sometimes I have to take a break from the constant stream of grief that comes across the news channel. It becomes too depressing.

I don't watch the news, listen to the news nor do I read the news. Thus I am neither ill informed nor misinformed. Actions speak louder than words.

Same here Jerry, I can't even watch the weather now without them pushing their political agenda.

I think the weather forcasters are bigger liars than politicians. I owe Chuck Loften in Indianapolis a serious butt kickin for getting me rained on when I road the motorcycle to work. He said no rain across the state, nothing but sunny skies for the week.

I do read the news everyday. I try not to follow the politics too much. But even many, if not most, of the news articles not related to politics seem to have a slant. The writer just has to inject his or her opinion about climate change, race, environmentalism, or some form of political correctness. I want just the facts so that I form my own opinion. But most folks who write the news want to be certain that I form the correct opinion - the left opinion.

I'ts unavoidable, there is no escape from media. Like it or not, it's critical that we stay informed.
Not too much going on for my 'local news' other than an occasional Cow Tipping or Catalytic Converter theft.
I do read the daily and weekend Los Angeles Times every morning with my coffee and AAPK browsing.
I enjoy British Broadcast (BBC) TV to get other perspectives.

Being that our Granddaughter is active Military, along with her US Marine Husband, yes, world and political news is essential.
Both returned safely last year from deployment.

A common sense post, Old Folder.
Being informed is important, we should sort through the fluff and know what we may be facing.
Most of us are old enough and experienced enough to detest being blindsided by being unaware.

I tune in to politics but am choosey about the source. Also, I have learned that hasty judgements are usually proven inaccurate. Knee-jerk response without the full story creates more problems than solutions. I'm very mindful of the fact that sensational stories, true or not, sell newspapers.

The large media groups are not in the business of telling the news but rather are selling what they want you to believe is the news. Back in the day the TV giants were telling and not selling. There was not all the devisiveness, political allignment and disagreement that we unfortunately have in the media today. I stopped watching the news 40 years ago but do read and glean what I want off the internet. I try to get a range of opinions and then decide what I believe to be true news. Much of what is proported to be news today is fodder in my opinion and little of it will have much if any affect on me. Wagging the dog.

I don't read the papers or sit and watch TV news broadcasts. But just from things that come up on my computer browsing, listening to the car radio or a couple of conservative talk radio shows I'm able to keep up with current affairs. That's all I need.

I know people who have taken it further and canceled their cable/satellite subscription.

Even if you're not watching news/politics; they weave it into most shows these days, and it's just gotten worse and worse. Even if you're watching an older or imported show that doesn't bother with the politics, I will guarantee you that if there isn't an ad for a political campaign, there's one for a PAC, an activist group, lobbyist, or NGO. Hulu had been holding out on allowing certain activist groups to buy ads, but fell to the groups' claims of "discrimination" and let them continue. If it weren't for the fact I had a grandfathered-in $1.99 student membership, I'd cancel. I wish networks and streaming services would outright ban ads from political groups, lobbyists, activists, and NGOs, regardless of what side of the aisle they're on.

Watched NCIS LA last night and it was 100% about racism.
I don't know why I watched it because the original NCIS is the only one of the four (NCIS, NCIS New Orleans, NCIS LA & NCIS Hawaii) that's worth a Tinker's Damn.

We have stopped watching news on TV.

I do read some conservative news collation websites, such as Powerlineblog.com, Lucianne.com and a couple of others. I read the articles that catch my attention.

Everything has become so bizarre, stupid and utterly unbelievable that it's hard to keep away from it all. I was towing the line of it becoming an addiction. It's like watching an old show like "Dallas." I was keeping up not so much to keep informed, but just to see just what wacky, weird, unreal thing had happened.
It's literally head scratching how stupidly asinine things are and have become. I have seen one thing or another and thought this can't actually be real.
