All About Pocket Knives

I somehow have my doubts that this is anything but a marketing ploy for an otherwise cool knife. Does anyone know what the story is on the shield marking?

The printing on the shjeld is engraved. and much newer than the knife.jmo

found an example in parker/voyles 1981 guide. army knife shield. odd, the bail is on the opposite end. assembled upside down? the knife was not a military issue.

Look at the RING too. It is so far off center.

Now that I am home I can add my photo. Looks the same as upnorth's knife. Nice bone scales.

I for one like the knife. Upnorth what are your thoughts on the knife? I can't say for sure it's the exact knife but I see knives of this type with the same shield from time to time on ebay. s-k what's your take on the one you have? Do you guys think its a put together knife or just not an army issue?

It doesn't seem put together to me. US army knives are far outside my realm of knowledge. I suspect, like many knives marked 'Scout', these are unofficial. JMO s-k

I think the knife was made as you see it, but it was indeed a zany marketing ploy.
The shield is not engraved. If you double click it, you will see the letter ends are square, not round like an engraver leaves them.
Seeing identical knives confirms it for me, but it is an oddball. Not only are things "bass-ackwards" but so is the catalog, only differently so. Definitely a twilight zoner !
For all its wierdness, it has a cool double pull main. Too bad it's worn down, but you can still see what it is.

BTW, thanks for showing yours, s-k. It is confirmation of it being a production knife, if nothing else. I'm glad I didn't send it as your "roundtable" knife !
