Remington Harness Jack

Picked up this Remington R183 3 5/8" harness jack, looks like it sat for many decades and rusted and then was cleaned. The frame has a very slight dog leg to it if you look close. First one with an acorn shield I've found. Interestingly my book shows R183 being a regular jack with a pen and a R193 being the harness jack with a punch, not sure if factory or book mistake.

Awesome find! I think I might have one too, but I don’t have it in front of me now and I don’t remember the number.

Sorry it’s an R403

Thank guys, appreciate the comments. BFORSE I find it interesting that yours has a different pattern number even though it appears to be the same knife.

The only differences I can spot is that yours has a newer tang stamp and an extra cover pin.

Very nice old R183, John. Maybe the guy at the factory just picked up the wrong blade.

This is an ad I found a while back. It looks like yours with 4 cover pins.

I know it’s listed as 3-1/2” but it’s my understanding that sometimes the Remington ads weren’t the most accurate when giving the closed dimension.

I went home and measured my Rem. Harness Jack and it ended up being 3-7/16”.
