handle for my camillus

where can i get a new handle for this knife and how do i disasemble it to put the new handle on. heres pics:

Leather washers are available at the various knifemaker supply houses....Jantz, Texas Knifemaker's Supply, K&G, etc. I couldn't tell from the photo's how the buttcap is pinned on - but to disassemble, you take the butt off, and the washers will slide off, rearward.
From the photo's, the washers don't appear to be loose - you might try just sanding and polishing, before you do a replacement ? (Just a thought).

Actually the handles don't look too bad on this knife and could just use a good refinishing which could be done with files, sandpaper and a buffer...in that order, or by uning a belt sander carefully and then sandpaper and buffer. Oil or wax could be applied afterwards. To get in the grooves you may use a round file. Should come out nice.

you cant tell from the pic but at one point, the handle has literally corroded in half an inch, but i may leave this knife as is and first restore my Cattaraugus 225q. It doesnt look bad, grip in ok condition, and blade lost most of its shine, but that project wont take more than a day or two.

If possible try to save the original handle. Replacing the handle on a Pilot's survival knife is not an easy task. The butt is secured to the knife by a peened tang. You have to straighten the end of the tang to remove the butt and the handle. After you install new leather washers onto the tang the butt has to be reinstalled by peening the tang. The grooves in the handle have to be milled or shaped (the washers that you buy will all be the same size-about the size of a half dollar).
