All About Pocket Knives

I bought this knife on an auction and can’t find much info on it also. Would it be German? Any help is much appreciated!

Ohringen (Oehringen) is a town of about 24,000 in southwestern Germany. The travel info and history does not mention any knife makers. Oddly your knife spells the town name with an "Oeh" whereas everything I read says "Oh".????? Maybe they changed it from the "old" German? Anyway, it's a nice piece, probably a small maker. J.O'.

The name of the town is likely Öhringen. Alternate spellings with an E, such as Oehringen, are commonly used when presenting a German name to someone who isn't used to the umlaut (the two dots over a letter). I hope that made sense.

When my brother took German in high school, 1962, the books still used the what they called the "old" style German printing. I don't see that much anymore. Do you known what I'm referring to? A very stylized font? J.O'.

Correct. "Oe" is the Angicized version of the German vowel "Ö" (note the umlaut symbol, two small dots over the letter) for which there is no other equivalent in English.

On another note, you have found a great old German piece. Very unique and unusual. Nice addition to any collection. Wrap it up. It’s also a great conversation piece.
