All About Pocket Knives

HI! This board has been a lifesaver the last few days as I've been listing part of my late father's knife collection. In his final letter to me, he mentioned a knife with woolly mammoth handle (tan and greenish, his words). He seemed to think it was more valuable than the others. It looks like a William Henry, but beyond that, I'm at a loss. There's no stamp on the tang other than the manufacturer. I'd be so grateful for any insight any of you can offer.

Yes that is the mark of William Henry. Can you be more specific about what you want to know? Best source for values is an advanced search of ebay sold listings. You may or may not find recent sales of the same knife but you can probably find something similar (pattern, handle cover material, etc) from the same brand, to use as a value comparison.

That's a William Henry Model T08 with Persian blade and mammoth handles. Very nice knife!!

I believe that Dozier was made by Daniel Crotts and sold by A.G. Russell through his website and catalog. It's a semi-production knife usually selling for a little over $200 new with the micarta handles.

Other than doing a Google search for that William Henry model number I'm not sure where else you can check on it. There aren't a whole lot around as I don't believe they make that particular one anymore. I've seen a couple in pearl go for between $275 and $350 but the mammoth would go for more I believe.

If you just recently lost your father I truly feel sorry and from just my experience I lost my dad in 2013 and I’m still not over it.

to AAPK Jon! My condolences on the loss of your Dad, that's a tough experience to get over. I too believe your knife is a William Henry and I say this because every time I see one I investigate it and yours is very similar to what I've seen. Your Dozier is pretty sweet too. Sorry to hear of your loss. The knives I have that were my dad’s are some of my most prized possessions, not that they’re particularly valuable but they’re soaked up in memories. Sometimes I just sit and hold them and think of him.

this is a nice forum to spend your time.

You probably have been told this before but keep a few of your dad’s knives.
I have 2 of my dad’s knives. They are the very best in my collection.
Neither are mint and 1 has a broken part but I think the world of them.

That's a touching eulogy Jon, your dad sounds like he was quite a guy, again sorry for your loss. The 3 knives in your picture are, A.-A CRKT version of a "Funny Folder"/inexpensive, B.-A Spyderco change/watch pocket utility folder/moderately inexpensive, and C.-An unknown brand of a skeletonized handled utility fixed blade/inexpensive. All 3 are great EDC's for boxes, strings, etc. Hope this helps!

Jon, I too read the eulogy. Your father was indeed an amazing guy, of many talents and accomplishments. Being the father of a pastor myself I’m confident he was very proud of you and your words about him that you shared with others at his service. I hope you will select a few of his knives to treasure in his memory and perhaps share with family. It’s clear they meant a lot to him else he wouldn’t have collected them.

I lost my father 6 years ago and still miss him. Being his oldest child I gave the eulogy at his funeral. It was in turn difficult, rewarding, and humbling. Thank you for sharing your father with us also.

The Spyderco is a Tim Wegner design that was mostly made by Bladetech. Not sure how some of them ended up being made by Spyderco. Bladetech called their model the Mouse but I don't know what Spyderco called their model.

The Spyderco and the Bladetech have some minor differences but they are both the same Tim Wegner design.

Sorry about your Dad. No, you won’t get over it. But you’ll get better with it.
Be sure to save one or two of his everyday users. 25 years later I still treasure my Dad’s worn knives.
