Deer Antler Handles From my field on a Schrade stockman

I picked up this old schrade 34ot with broken blades and handles. So I decided to give it new life I had all the blades for a 34OT except the clip blade. I had a bunch of blades I purchased off ebay . In the bunch was a Schrade 834UH clip blade. Great I am in business!! I decided to use deer antler for the handles from some buck sheds I found in my field. I just wanted to share with everyone. I really like the look.

Nev I'm proud of you, over the last 8 to 10 months you have really become a knife mechanic. Great job on the Schrade!

The knife looks great. Kudos for replacing blades and saving an oldie. The antler sheds you picked are great. Great job finding them and recycling them and the whole project gets my interest. Great work, great save. Niiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiice.

Is that Whitetail antler, or another species?
I have done a couple of knives in whitetail antler and my results were nowhere near this good! It is SO difficult to get a workable piece, because it is all curves.
Yours has great contrast between the "bark" and the hafted edges, is really gnarly, and it fits the knife well.

I still have a long wall to go but I do feel I am improving. I had to do a lot of belt sanding to flatten the antler for the scales but I think now that it’s done it was worth the effort. It was a fun project and I also like the fact the deer antler came from my property. I will some day pass it on to my son for a remembrance

I used a band saw with a 1/4'' by 14 tooth blade.

It was whitetail deer. Yes you are right it is hard to find a good workable piece of antler. I was fortunate to find a huge 6 point antler That made it somewhat easier to use but it still was a lot of belt sanding to get it flat after cutting it in half. It was somewhat of a challenge but a fun project.
