Here's a GEC single blade, I think it was a boys knife, as it had a bail that was removed. The owner had cut an EO notch, but further up on the knife. He wanted the covers replaced and a new EO notch cut. We went with Giraffe bone.

Great work, wow what a beauty now. I like how you moved the EZ notch closer to the bare head. Fit's the fingers better IMHO. And gives more leverage on the blade when you pinch. Bravo, fabulous piece now. One of a kind.

Glenn what are the GEC numbers on the blade tang ?

Unfortunately, I did not note the pattern numbers, so it may well be something else. It is a Tidioute(GEC) for sure!

I own a bunch of EO knives and that looks great nice work

Thank you Glenn. Some of these EO's i believe were made for the #15 pattern and some for the smaller #14 pattern. If this is not correct i hope a GEC 'expert' will correct it.

Isn't the point of the EZO notch to line up with the nail-nic for opening? I completely understand the idea of pinching the blade to open and I like it, but if they built the knife with a wide blade then why the EZO notch, period? Thx! Almost forgot, beautiful work Glenn!

I never thought of that. Maybe the nick is supposed to be at the same place as the notch, but I find the further away from the pivot the better for leverage, which to me makes it easier to open and the point of it. Here's another couple knives where they don't line up, but I don't need the nick in the EZO notch area, it opens easy without. And when the knife is open, my ring finger fits right in the notch on these two I'm picturing. GEC and Schrade Cut Co. The Cut co was made between 1917 - 1946 so Schrade at least was doing it this way for a while. Long while. Just my two cents, others may disagree for sure.

Nope, I don't disagree bud. On the 2 knives you posted the notch certainly doesn't line up with the nics, and those knives look like they're straight from the factory and haven't been modded in any way, so perhaps the intention originally was to line up the wide part of the blade with the notch and had nothing to do with the nics, who knows. I hear what you're sayin' bout' your ring finger fitting perfectly with the notch when the blade is open, I love when that happens! Thx for your answer!

I've always mostly seen them/put them towards the end of the blade...as the I-man said, better leverage for opening the blade, plus on a spear blade especially, the blade is a little fatter at that end for a better gripping area.
