I believe I have posted this before, however I have taken some better pictures, just thought I’d share

It would be interesting to see other similar knives.

Besides lack of case lettering on shield, what characteristics
does the factory 2nd have over a regular Case?

Thanks for asking, maybe not very visible in the photos, but in hand you can see the case stamp which has been ground off, which was a common practice to identify with how case marked their seconds, it’s told that Case limited the amount of 2nd and often destroyed most by fire or press/hammer. You can still see enough of the stamp to confirm 1) authenticity and 2) that it was a case knife.

The shield imo was a blank shield regardless of it being a 2nd, the ink on the back handle was a salesman mark, sold
For $1.00

From examination the story is easy for me to read, the secondary doesn’t close perfectly and has contacted the liner which has caused a small ding near the nail cut out on the frame. Additionally the blades have not finished the full polishing process.

100% from the tested era, I would also guess early tested because of the blank shield.

There are still visible parts of the tested era stamp that aren’t so variable in the pic

On factory seconds in that era, Case would buff the name off of the shield and remove it from the blade.

I have a 6254 like that, Tested era, green bone, no tang mark and blank shield.

Thanks for the insight, you are most likely right.

I’d love to see that trapper!
