All About Pocket Knives

I have not found the name anywhere yet. My guess is 1770s rev war knife. Put a small pocket knife in for size lol

Old but not sure how old, definitely cool!

I cannot find the name in either Goins or Levine's LG 4.

Did you get that knife from me? I sold an identical one at Lewisburg show a few years back. I was never able to ID the maker but my friend Doug Growitz has had a couple similar knives and he says they are early 1800s. It is a very cool knife!!

I got it yesterday at a local market . But he might have got it from you.

It definitely was once my knife, same crack in stag. I have asked several of the top knife experts in the country and nobody has heard of Stedman. I did not ask Bernard Levine, you should try him. Like I said the best estimate I was able to get was early 1800s, with "circa 1820" as an answer, and that it is probably English. Personally I don't believe it is rev war era. This is why I think its rev war.

What book is that? I have never seen any folding knives that large attributed to the revolution. Many folding knives carried in that era had no backsprings. There were no cutlery companies making folding knives in the colonies, they all came from Europe.

Ha, ha, ha! You said it Randy, that's my kindda knife!!! When I first viewed this knife Kabar came to mind in reference to their 007 knife, but Pete's post above with the picture pretty much dispels that idea! Love me some BIG knives!

I have it on good advice that this knife was made by Paul Revere himself and that he probably had it with him on the famous midnight ride. Not really, but I also would like to know where and when it was made!

Like Gene said, older folding knives (pre-18something) were friction folders. The book pictured knife definitely looks like a friction folder.

One thing about this knife is it has no kick . It is built into the back spring.

A few others. I know it might not be rev war but it is early. And with no kick I think its older than you might think. I have been looking for Stedman and found some in New England but not much luck yet.

I'm with Gunsil. I think it's English.

Those handle slabs are huge.
