1970 Stag Eisenhower

A couple of weeks ago I saw a 1970 10 Dot Stag Eisenhower sold for $400+ on eBay. It was in excellent condition and had really nice stag on one side and pretty good stag on the other. My question is why did this knife sell for so much. I didn't see it advertised as a limited edition or any other special characteristic to make it so valuable. I can probably find the auction listing if that would help. Please school me. Thanks.

Nice looking knife... It's not uncommon for this seller to get top dollar for his knives. Looking at the bid history below, it looks like 2 bidders really wanted it as the third highest bid was only $112.50.
Looking at sold listings for this year, it looks like this knife will normally average around $150.

Tha bale might have influenced the selling price also. Makes it a rarer knife.

Another thing to consider with Case knives: All things being equal, a 10-Dot with almost always sell for a higher price simply because it's a 10-Dot. And again that's if everything else is pretty much equal.
It's the same principal with sports cards that are autographed and numbered. Someone will pay more for the card numbered "1" than for the card numbered "4", just because it's #1.

Wow, when reading the original post, I didn't even pay close attention to the stamp and the listing. That price seems even crazier now as others have sold for under $100. I think I may have one from that year. Maybe I can have him list it for me.

Yes, it is a 1980 knife from the "Gentlemen's Line". Not really all that rare. I usually figure on selling them for a max of maybe 90 to 100 each with a hard shell Case box.
