All About Pocket Knives

These aren’t seen much anymore. RR 1022 single blade lock back in Damascus. I bought this one somewhere around 15 years ago. The blade and bolsters are San Mai Damascus. I’m showing it next to the Steel Warrior version. These were obviously made in the same factory. The Rough Rider stays in the original box with a bunch of other early Rough Riders. The Steel Warrior I have used as part of my EDC rotation off and on for more than a decade and while the Damascus pattern has faded with use it’s been a great knife. Easily sharpened and holds a good edge.

I have (or had ?) the same RR Damascus 'Curved Barlow', also purchased about 12-15 years ago. I agree, very well made knife. I did not know there also is a Steel Warrior version.

Wow, Randy, thank you for the blast from the past, knives like those must have been considered high-end with an accompanying high price! I didn't realize that it was only that short time ago that they were already building masterpieces like those! To my naked eye neither knife is showing any signs of being sharpened, so you did an incredible job! You're very fortunate to be the proud owner of those 2 gorgeous knives! When I look at them "Moki" comes to mind....! !

This one does have that Moki look to it. They cost very little at the time. Some where around 15 to 20 bucks if I remember correctly. Oddly the frame design and san mai technique are both Japanese. I’m very happy with these. If run across another I’d buy it without hesitation.

Here are a couple of the Steel Warrior versions in pearl and abalone that I picked up several years ago with a group of knives I purchased. Never paid much attention to them, but after seeing this thread, I got them out for a closer look and they actually have pretty good F&F and both have good opening and closing snap.

The knife is well-made, with good walk and talk, no bladeplay in any direction, and the overall feel of a knife worth ten times the price.

The blade and bolsters are composed of genuine San Mai Damascus steel, which is tougher and more wear resistant than 440A steel.

The RR brand is actually rather great for the money! The fit and workmanship are far superior than that of any other $10-$15 slippie.

Thanks for the information and positive comments . Never looked at the Steel Warrior knives much, but after taking a closer look, I am liking these 2 more and more.

I found another one of these from Steel Warrior. Unused in the original box. These are getting harder to find these days.

That's a beautiful knife Randy! I own only one Steel Warrior knife and it's a Dr.'s knife. Shortly after I got it my cat knocked it off it's stand and the bone covers shattered into 4 pieces so I had to re-handle it, but it turned out quite well. It's amazing what some Damascus and pearlex can do to spice up an otherwise plain-jane knife!

I purchased 4 of their basic folders for my tool boxes and they are very good knives, especially at $5.00/knife with free shipping. The blades set right in the center of the liners and they all hold an edge really well.

Can you show me exactly where you buy the genuine knife? I was scammed to buy at $8.00/knife which cookie clicker is terrible.

I purchased them a few years ago on Ebay. The Chinese are capable of making quality products, they are few and far between.

A couple of years ago I also purchased 3 - TwoSun (Chinese) high end folders with bearing pivots, they are very high quality knives, D2 blades and as fast as any spring assist I've used. The fit and finish are as good as most USA knives for less than half the cost.

I still have one. I bought mine from Smoky Mountain knife Works, and I remember they were sold out of both sizes very quickly, and never had another supplier. This is the smaller one, and a phone knife to get out every once in a while. I really like the drop point blade, and it gets sharped easily.

Very cool RR, Hal, if I didn't know better I'd think it was a Moki on first glance!
