Possible Scammer

Situation as follows: I am looking for the GEC book, got a message today from new member that just happened to join aapk today reefsteve . Referred me to his 'friend" SamuelPaul who he said had the book. After some negotiating over emails we agree on a price , Samuel wanted PPFF. Since I do not know him at all I said I would pay the 3 percent for G and S which is not much over a buck anyway. I also said he could send first and I had plenty of references. The emails were coming quickly within a minute or so and then once I said the 3% for goods and services, nothing. This was only about a hour and a half ago, so maybe he's fine, but making this post now in case he is not and others are having interactions with him/them. Seems very fishy to me, however, if you are legitimate I apologize but gotta look out for my AAPK bros.

I got a PM from the same person referring me to his friend SamuelPaul.
I didn't respond after seeing he just joined today, probably a scammer. ::td::

Was it in regards to a post you had on the want to buy thread?

Yes, I wanted to buy a Combat Ready mini M1 bayonet and he said his friend SamuelPaul had one.
I didn't respond and have reported the private message I got from him. If it's legit, my apologies, but it looked fishy to me.

Scammer. No doubt about it. Drop the Banhammer on him.

Thanks for the heads up.

Same MO as other scammers reported here recently.

1. Member 1 posts a “wanted” item.
2. Member 1 is contacted by recently joined member 2, who has (or has a “friend” who has) the exact item member 1 is seeking. Just send payment,
3. Member 1 sends payment. Never receives the item and both member 2 and “friend” are never heard from again. Attempts to contact “friend” or member 2 are unanswered.

It’s a shame. I’ve bought knives from members here before without any problems. Not long after becoming a member here I bought a knife from a member and was surprised when they shipped the knife to me before even receiving my check in the mail, let alone waiting until it cleared. Mutual trust and honesty was the norm here, at least until recently when scammers started ruining it. ::paranoid::

You are smarter than me, I engaged and used up a half hour emailing back and forth. Waste of time. I guess the upside is that attention is being brought to this so hopefully saves someone from getting scammed.

Actually your post saved me from possibly being scammed.
I was just about to respond to this person when I saw your post. Thanks very much! ::tu:: ::handshake::

If it even smells a bit fishy, it will normally end up stinking. This may be a sad outlook to have, but in the world we live in now this is my approach.

This sounds exactly like the "JonasM" individual who tried to pull the same stunt on me.

Willing to bet the same individual is behind the scams and is just changing names each time he gets caught.

Yikes! I happened to find one of the last Lufkin folding rules made in the USA as new old stock at a local feed store 4-5 years ago, and it's my go-to for anything that needs to be measured. My six-foot tape measure is a Western Auto from like the '50s.

Wow! ::uc:: This dishonesty is really getting out of hand. What purpose would shortening a tape measure achieve Tom? ::shrug:: The only thing that comes to mind for me is being dishonest about the length of a knife, and how much difference would 1/4" make anyway? ::shrug:: Thx! 8)

What a rotten thing to happen, it just takes one person to make every one think twice about who you can trust. ::hmm::

I received a similar message this morning about the knife in my want ad. The dude had joined just a few hrs earlier, sent me the samuelpaul message soon after, and had zero posts. That’s fishy to me. If he really had the knife I want, why wouldn’t he post in my thread and tell me all about it?

Anyway, reported it and went about my morning. After lunch I checked in at the post office and found the knife Rich had sent me, which I’m pleased with. As with Cal and Jeff and Cody, dealing with real members here has been positive in every Case. Fortunately, the scammers can’t imitate that.

If ya can’t trust a tape measure, who can ya trust? It’s enough to make a guy want to go metric.

Parker

ETA: so apparently that scammer is no longer registered. Good riddance, and good work mods. Thank you for that.

Well with that tape you have a excuse for missing the length of your cut….

I could probably boost my square footage by 25%. I wonder if lawyers have clocks like that for billable hours?

Looks like the top tape measure was trimmed too short before it was riveted with the tip. It only has a little over 11/16ths of marks to the first inch mark.
