This knife repair is very addictive, habit forming, compelling, compulsive. Whatever definition you like to use. I purchased this junk Uncle Henry on eBay Just for parts. I thought I would get the spey blade and bolsters to save. Well impulse buys don't usually don't work out for me and not to disappoint neither did this one. When I got it I thought that was money wasted. So I let it sit trying to gets springs and a spey blade. Then I happened to see a seller on eBay selling Queen parts and he had springs and a spey blade for a Queen folding hunter. So I thought I would throw more money away to get this thing put together. After a lot of fitting and filing and grinding. It is almost a knife again . A little more fitting and some buffing I was going to replace the handles because of a crack at the rocker pin. But I might just keep it like it is the Delrin stag looks better with a clean up. It will be a good work knife for the summer. So here is my Schrade, Uncle Henry, Queen Knife I might just call it a Neville Knife for my last Name.

Nev, that is quite a nice result for a mixture of parts! Usually this is a tough proposition because of the subtle differences in parts. But, I'm sure it was a good learning experience for you and I'm glad that you didn't give up!

Doesn't the "+" on the master blade of your old Uncle Henry indicate stainless steel blades? If so, why is one blade so badly rusted, or corroded, while the other blade appears to be in good condition? Some type of electrolysis maybe? I can understand why the springs are in such bad shape if the knife was buried in mud or exposed to salt water or something similar. Any ideas?

Thanks, Jim and Glen for your comments. Marco Heinz 57 I like that Herb you are right using mixed parts is a challenge everything looks close but you have to fit everything. I do like a challenge it is part of the fun when it turns out I just keep on plugging.

As far as I know the Schrade + is stainless. The spey blade did have rust at the pivot but somebody retipped it so it was short. As far as how rusted the knife was, I think it was probable that the knife was in water and reacted with the steel from the springs. I have seen the same with steel and aluminum fasteners on truck bodies and boat trailers any time 2 different metals are connected it sometimes causes bimetallic corrosion. Thats just a guess.

Thanks Nev for your thoughts on the cause of the rust/ corrosion on your knife blade. The rust on those springs is some of the worst that I have ever seen. That's a great looking rebuild.

That before picture looked like a lost cause.
