I found this metal detecting today about 5 or 6 inches down in Carmel, NY. I wanted to know if this is a pen knife and if anyone knows what year it is and possibly how much it's worth. Thank you

Welcome here, pickc16.
You have a Boker knife. We need to see all the blades and that stamp on the front of the tang on the main blade.
How long is it?
I doubt there is a high value. Someone will probably be along to help you with more information.
Thanks for showing it. ::tu::

Is that a broken spring that is sticking out the back of the knife?

Pretty sure he’s asking about here - looks like a broken back spring. It’s on the opposite end from the ring.

Gentlemen's knives like that one are not heavily sought after by collectors, so generally are lower in value, in spite of being a good name brand. The condition of that one is so poor that the value is basically nothing. Perhaps worth a few dollars for parts.

The joy of finding is offset by the condition of what is found. Haven't detected much of late but it is a fun hobby.
