Broken s.w.a.t. auto knife

I can't find too much information out there on these, and nothing all about repairing them. It's a s.w.a.t. out the front auto. Pressing the button will not extend the blade. I can pull it out by hand, and the blade retracting mechanism seems to work. Could it just be a broken spring? Are these even worth repairing?

IMHO P80, I'd say your knife is worth repairing. It doesn't appear to be one of the really cheap Chinese models evidenced by it being only a single action OTF that needs the blade recharged after each firing, and the really cheap one's are ALWAYS dual-action. They are very simple to take apart and once inside you may find that the firing problem is simply one of the springs becoming unattached from it's bracket and repositioning it will solve the problem. That may not be the problem, but they are so simple inside that you should be able to figure it out quite easily. Good luck! ::handshake:: 8)

I'm visualizing parts and springs flying out if I open it up. I may have to give it a try though.

If you can tie your shoes you shouldn't have problems taking it apart or putting it together. Really not much to them, you'll be surprised how little there is inside one.

The long spring inside had shifted somehow, so that's why it wouldn't work. Seems fine now. I did launch the spring for the button across my garage when I took it apart , so that added 45 minutes to this job trying to find it. All is good now though.

Ahh, good stuff! ::tu:: I love happy endings, and now you have a fully functional mid-grade OTF knife, as well as the valuable experience of knowing their inner workings in case you come up against the same problem in the future! Winner, winner, chicken dinner! 8)
