I got this today with a pile of other stuff. Unfortunately
the spring inside is broken and the blade has been sharpened

Is there a spring? I thought this is a 'gravity knife". Are you referring to the spring on the locking lever?

The lever pushes some type of spring inside so the blade can be extended when pointing upside down

Not broken, the trigger holds the knife open or closed, gravity does the movement. Looks like a Paul Weyersberg and in decent shape! Those were made in the late 1930's and are highly sought after and collectable. Just don't open/close it too much, the trigger spring will break. I paid @ $150 to get one with a broken spring and missing trigger fixed, easily worth double that but don't sell it on eBay.

There are numbers on the trigger and a mark on the spike to denote authenticity.

The lever on the one in the original post just flops up and down but won't let the blade drop. It is a weyersburg made knife. I'm still trying to decide if I want to get it fixed. I guess it really depends on how much it costs. I already had this one in my collection that is much nicer than the one I got today
