All About Pocket Knives

Found this today. Stainless scales, chrome plated punch,cap lift and can opener, blued(?) blade, brass liners. No marks on blades or bail. Can opener stamped "patent pend." Snappy and heavily made, good shape, unworn, just dirty.
Were these made unstamped? Seems odd. Date? Thanks for any info. J.O'.

Skip I won't repost the pics here but it's looking like a first generation Stevenson or Kingston. Odd that there seems to be no trace of a stamp on the bail. The knife is really not worn at all. Anyway, good to see you have an "UNKNOWN" too. Thanks again. J.O'.

To me, the tang stamp on the can opener favors the one on an Imperial on page 31 of this month's KNIFE Magazine but with Pat Pending vs a patent number.

Chrome plating would be very unusual. The blades on these early models were carbon steel and the main blade is not blued but showing patina common to carbon steel. There are quite a few of these seen without maker marks, reason is presently unknown. Froe, these knives have nothing to do with the Imperial shown in KM although Kingston was a joint venture with Imperial and Schrade/Ulster.

The scales are monel. AFAIK.

I believe the unmarked ones were made by Kingston.

Yeah they are Monel. Thanks Ed. It's a nice knife, solid with thick brass liners. Buddy of mine owns a used furniture store and once in a while he finds one in a drawer. Lucky! J.O'.
