Hey Joe here,made a post a while back asking for a little help with Identifying a pair of case knives and a pair of Klien Tool knives. He pics where so good,so here are a few better ones. Any info back is appreciated.

I believe your Long Tail "C" Case is 2002, not sure what's going on with the other one as it has 2 different handle material numbers. I don't know anything about Klein's, except they're made in Chicago.

I can’t help you with the Klein Tools electrician knives other than tell you they were likely made on contract by someone else, possibly Camillus. To my knowledge Klein does not manufacture cutlery.

In your Case knives, one is a standard Case trapper pattern 3254. You can learn about its age and the pattern by clicking on Research in the header at the top of this page. As I speculated in your prior post it can now be confirmed from these pictures, the one without the name Case in its tang stamp has likely had one of its blades replaced. This is confirmed from the pattern numbers stamped on the blades. 3254 is the correct pattern number (“3” being the number designating the yellow synthetic handle covers). The other blade having 6254 stamped on it belongs in a knife having bone handle covers (designated by the “6” in the pattern number). Also one blade is stamped SS (stainless steel) while the other is stamped CV (chrome vanadium steel) aka carbon steel. These different types of blades do not belong in the same knife (highly unlikely made that way at the factory).

It seems to me that the Trapper showing 6354 HB SS has had the master clip blade replaced with one from a 3-blade (probably, but not necessarily, a bone handled) trapper (a 6 was also used on knives with Delrin handles).

I don't know what "HB" stands for; don't recall ever seeing it before.

I don’t recognize HB either. H has traditionally been the Case designation for sHeepsfoot blade. During the Tested XX days B was the designation for imitation onyx handle covers but they haven’t used it (or imitation onyx) since then that I know of.

Maybe someone else will know about HB.

Edit: I figured it out. The HB is for hobo. The blade is also stamped “6354” indicating it originated in a 3 blade hobo pattern. Case also released a 3-blade version of the trapper pattern, but as best I can figure HB is a hobo designator. Also just noticed the other knife which I had previously thought was legit also has a 6254 stamp. Meaning it too is probably altered using a blade originating in a bone handled knife.
