All About Pocket Knives

Has anyone seen knives like these before?
They seem pretty cool.

Most of those I’ve seen are made in Japan. They’re fairly common, you can find a lot of them on eBay. I have one somewhere stamped Mitsuboshi. https://www.ebay.com/sch/i.html?_dmd=1& ... n&_sacat=0

Glad you like them! They could make an interesting collecting focus. I’ve read that Mitsuboshi has been making cutlery in Japan since the late 1800’s so there are a lot of different variations. Some of the more common ones aren’t expensive but the rarer ones can be pricey. A search for Mitsuboshi here on AAPK will give some idea of the other patterns.

Picked these two up at an estate sale about a year ago. The small one is 2 1/4" closed...a tiny G.C. Co. Not sure what the single tang fork is all about...that's the way it was when I got it. The stainless steel one I know nothing about, but is nice.

Rsummers, I have one similar to the top pic, although mine has steel bolsters and liners. It’s a beast to pocket carry, marked “ROSCO” over “JAPAN”. 4-5/8” long by almost 2” wide. Carbon steel main blade takes a good edge.

The one I actually use occasionally is a smaller (3-1/2”) Colonial shell bolster.

Interestingly, they both feature a stainless fork and spoon. I’ve always heard them called “hobo knives”.

Rsummers I like your collection , I also have a knife similar to the top knife in your picture.
Unlike your knife mine is in terrible condition. But like CATSPA mine also has steel bolsters and liners and Stainless Spoon and Fork. My main blade is marked JAPAN on one side and IDEAL PROD. INC on the other.

Goins lists IDEAL PRODUCTS INC, SOLINGEN GERMANY 1950-1970 so I am guessing they made the knife in Japan.

I have two hobo knives one from Japan and one from Germany they both come apart to let you have the fork in one hand and the spoon in the other
