Schrade Cut Co 2174 3/4 Info?

Thought I’d check with Schrade experts on this knife. It looks like the 2174 3/4 W listed in Sargent’s (my Sargent’s catalog is from 1986). Unlike Sargent’s picture, both blades on my knife are sabre ground and the master blade has the etching “Armstrong Special” on it. I can’t find much of anything on the net regarding 2174 3/4 knives at all, let alone one with the features of mine. Any experts out there with any more info?

Buckshot,

That model with the saber ground clip shows up in the 1940 catalog with ebony handles as model number 2172 3/8. I don't see it in any of the previous catalogs. The 2 would signify ebony and the 3/8 signifies a saber clip blade. Your Armstrong special ivory celluloid handled model would be a 2174 3/8 and was possibly a catalog addition after that year as I don't have any catalogs from 1940 to 1946 and I'm actually not sure how much they manufactured during the war years. It's also possible that it was a special order for one of the larger hardware outfits at that time. Nice knife and likely pretty scarce with that blade etch too.

Here's one that I have with cocobolo handles so it was definitely available with different handle materials at some point in its life cycle:

Thanks for the reply, Eric. Great info. One thing I know for sure, it's a very well made knife. All the fittings are smooth and the blades are tight. Substantial weight to it too.

Cal I think this would be the correct catalog cut. for that model as it shows the saber ground clip. This is from catalog 40 which post-dates the 1938 Supplement:

Yes, indeed; I keep forgetting to look at the 1940. Thank you!

Cal, Roland and Buckshot scratch that info! ::dang:: I was going through the old catalog E this morning looking for a completely unrelated knife when i spotted this in the 1938 Supplement section:

I have no idea how I missed it initially as I went through the catalog TWICE looking for it! Blind as a bat I guess ::shrug::

Anyway I missed it by two years so it appears in 1938 rather than circa 1040. I like the way they were more descriptive in the old catalog versus the newer one.
