My wife and I just got hit in the chest with sledgehammers.

My father-in-law went into the hospital with severe lower abdominal pains on Thursday. The ER did a CT scan and found, what they thought, was an air hole in one of his intestines. They gave him IV antibiotics to see if it would close on it's own or if they needed to do surgery. Upon more CT scans yesterday, they found a mass. Today, he underwent a three hour surgery where they found, what they believe to be colon cancer spread through his lower half and on his liver. Without treatment, they're giving him up to five years. The other problem is, we don't know if he will even be able to withstand any treatment as he had a massive heart attack last year, he has diabetes and horrible sleep apnea. My wife is in shambles and I am in shock. We went from little hole in the intestine to five years to live in about 30 hours.

Prayers, thoughts and well wishes are needed.

He also got married two years ago and adopted his wife's 16 year old daughter.

His name is Monty. He is currently in ICU where they are keeping a very close eye on him.

Holy Father... Please be with this family during this difficult time. It it such an earth shattering thing to find out your days are numbered by a catastrophic disease. Father, we know you love us as your children. Please give this family comfort and peace in knowing the creator of the universe is by their side while this battle against cancer rages. Father, we trust You and know you will do what is best in this situation.
May Your will be done!

Lord I lift Monty up in prayer this morning pleading for your healing and comfort for him. May he know that you care and that you are with him in all things. Amen.

Some good news...he is showing good signs of improvement! He is still in ICU, but the reasons he is in ICU are better. He had a breathing tube for only about 12 hours, his high heart rate has steadily went down, his draining tube from the incision area is clearing up (much to the surgeon's delight) and his 100* temperature is now down to the normal 98.6. They are crossing their fingers he can leave ICU in a couple of days. Still a long way to go yet. They figure he'll still be in the hospital another week and a half or so if he continues to do well.

Hey folks, thanks again for the prayers.
My FIL's vitals are looking better and better. Problem is now, he is very confused and out of his mind. The hospital has reassured my wife that it is from the trauma he has suffered from the surgery and everything they are pumping thru him. He has prayed out loud, talked to nobody like he's in a fight by daring someone to "Come on. Come on.", looked for his wife who was standing right next to him, etc. It has my wife very on edge. Otherwise, physically, he is showing well for what has happened.

Sorry to read this, MG, but glad to read he made it through the surgery. Prayers for a speedy recovery.

Is he on Morphine? I remember when my dad was in the hospital, they gave him Morphine, and he was saying all kinds of wacky stuff.
