All About Pocket Knives

Just wondering what the conventional wisdom on this question is.

They are still all over the place, and are still inexpensive. I'd imagine though that lots of collectors are going to put a few on ice so they may remain pretty plentiful even in "mint in box condition" for decades to come.

I'm going to get a few and put them away regardless. I just wanted to spur some discussion on this.

Jim glad you brought this up. I grew up with Shrades and Case stockmans. Both knives performed like a champ. For working on the farm you couldn't beat them in my opinion. I collect mostly Case stockmans and a few trappers. But in the last year and half I have picked up a few Shrade stockmans and trappers. Even if they don't go up in value they look good in my collection or if I wanted to give them as gifts they are still a great knife to use and carry even the ones at the end of Shrade made in the U.S.A. As always this is my opinion

We bandy this around the Schrade forum quite a bit.
The general consensus seems to be that Schrade knives for the most part were good, well built users, and there were a lot of most patterns made. The knives from the custom shop and many of the collaborations are very nicely done, and should remain quite collectible. But, even common patterns that are NIB, with everything, are still desireable and may someday show an increase in value. I would not pay a premium for common patterns, but I am keeping a few NIB...but, that's just me.

My avatar is a Schrade scrimshaw series Barlow, (the work was done by Frank Giorgianni), with fancy bolsters, from the early 80s.

Here are two more nice ones.

Top knife I bought directly from Schrade. Jigged bone, rope-styled Old Timer shield, 100th Anniversary etch, serial #010 of very, very few...as they closed about a week after I received it.
Second knife is a medium stock pattern in Sambar stag from the custom shop inside of Schrade.

I personally like Schrades.

----- I would advise any knife collector that most if not all natural handeled Schrade knives in bone & Stag will in fact be a very, very good long term investment indeed! ... The newer ones that are out now are a dead Dog in the hobby!

I believe it is the same pattern...only the blade etches are different.
Oh yeah, you got a cool tin...mine came in a plain white box.

I feel that any USA Schrade is a really good investment right now. People are paying top dollar now that Schrade are China made.
I wish I had all the ones I have sold over the last 10 years.
