Browning Model 573 Jerry Fisk

The majority of the these were a numbered 500 piece run, but there were some made in a run of a 100 with a # and SS. These were supposed to be carbon steel, does anyone know if the run of 100 were stainless? or does SS stand for something else? Thanks for any help,
