All About Pocket Knives

Here is a Western model 062 Folding Hunter. The thin and graceful profile of this knife has always appealed to me. Delrin handles are fine, serviceable handles but they certainly don't have the beauty this stag does, IMHO. This 062 got a stag makeover. I dyed the stag and I am curious to see how you all like the color. It wasn't quite where I wanted it, but it is moving in the right direction I think.
I'm looking for a darker brown without too much yellow in it.

I was going to put the knife in my store, but I took it to the flea market with me to show a Marine friend of mine who is a member of the Oregon Knife Collectors Association. Before I could find my friend
I saw a local gun collector and sometimes knife buyer someone I have done repair work for. He was right inside the door of the fleamarket and he wasn't busy at that moment. I walked over and exchanged greetings and I looked at some of things in his table. He asked me what I was up to, and we made small talk as I was looking at some of the mostly gun related items on his table. I told him I had just finished a nice Western Folding Hunter and he said, "Well, let's see it." So I showed him the knife and he asked how much I wanted for it. He took one look at the Western and asked me how much? I gave him the price and he reached in a bank bag and handed my asking price. I said wait a minute, I need to take some pictures, as I wasn't sure if the ones I'd taken the night before were good or not. It turns out they were better than the ones I took at the flea market.

All in all I was pleased to get my asking price and not have to take the time to do the write up for my store.

Dale, That is a nice looking knife and the stag has great color

Beautiful job, Dale! A real improvement, I like the #062's, I have 2 of them somewhere in my stash, neither one has the Boulder stamp if I remember correctly.
The stag has the delrin beat by several laps!

I really like the color of the dye. It looks like a natural aging..... beautiful.
AND... the pattern of the stag looks a lot like winter bottom on the pile side... NICE!

I don't blame the gentleman for buying it, if I were there I couldn't pull the money out of my pocket fast enough.
Folding hunters are some of my favorites.

Thanks guys, I appreciate the feedback, especially regarding the color. I liked the color a little better when it was darker, but it got lighter as I buffed the bone. I have another Western fixed blade coming that I used the same dye, but applied it more liberally, then added a second dying of water based PP just to see how it looks. I have to finish the sheath for it also. I am learning a few things about leather work by trial and error and my local shoe repairmen / Tandy Leather store owner has been been super helpful. Lately I can't seem to get out of his store for less than $40-$50. Tools are expensive!

Excellent work Dale! Sounds like you made two people happy - the guy who bought it and yourself, for pride of workmanship. Hard to beat a nice slim folding hunter.

A fine job Dale! The color of the stag looks just about perfect to me. Wouldn't it be nice to sell more knives in the manner you described, no fuss, no muss, just slam bam thank you Sam!
