Enough is enough

There are a couple unremarkable knives somewhere out there in the delivery system that I previously ordered but, I am determined not to purchase any knives in 2022.

Good luck with that, Ken. I know where you’re coming from. I made the same resolution a few years ago on January 1st.
I attended a knife show that January and I held my ground. Just looked around and enjoyed the commerodery. Then danged if I didn’t finally cave in and buy a knife in February. I should have just bought one at the knife show and been done with it.
I sincerely wish you better luck than I had.

I only make resolutions that are realistic and offer a reasonable chance of being kept. For me at least, not buying any more knives doesn't meet those criteria.
I don't even want to think about it.

I make a resolution every new year to at least sell as many as the new ones (new to me) that I acquire. So, what I can't figure out is why then, does the herd keep growing year after year?

I swore back in September not to buy any more knives till after Christmas. I think I bought 5 or 6 more after making that resolution! No sense making resolutions I can’t keep!

Despite all the above comments i think you can do it Ken.
When Covid began, the USA/Canada land border closed to all "non-essential" travel. The USA border guard did not see my trip to the P.O. in Northport WA. to pick up knives as "essential".
Most USA sellers will not ship to Canada so without access to my USA shipping address, my constant purchasing of 'must have' knives stopped. At first i felt quite 'troubled' by missing out on so many great knives. However as time went by i missed getting knives less and less. The result is that my knife buying habit/addiction no longer drives my behaviour. Now, after about 2 1/2 ? years, i no longer feel the need to buy another knife. I still have plenty of knives to give me lots of enjoyment.
So, Ken, the first couple of months of no new knives are the hardest. If you can get through this early part i'm sure your desire for more knives will decline and it will become natural to look at but not want to buy knives.

Of course you can do, but like all plans you need a plan, think about what you actually NEED as compared to what you want, trade out a few and thin the herd, that will give you room to move. I posted on the first on January last year that i was keeping my knife purchases for 2021 at 2 knives, i purchased one, so it can be done. But you are right, enough is enough, our forebears usually had one knife, that was all they could afford, when i got my first knife i loved that knife more than any i have now. I was 13 and given the knife because i had shown i was responsible enough to have one, and i treasured it.

Aaaaaaaammen brother, you are wise. I got $20 bucks says it's a bust. Saying I won't buy a knife in 2020 is like saying Trump won the election. Not even in the realm of reality. Pure nonsense. Your results may vary.

That's about the most realistic answer I've seen. You did damn good to make it to February if you ask me. Shows great self control and more self mastery than I'll probably EVER have. Kudos to ya and happy new year. New year, new shot at a knife.

If this is how you're honestly feeling about purchases Ken, then I wish you the best of luck!
In all sincerity, this hobby of ours truly can be an addiction, so why not treat it as if it was alcohol or drugs you're trying to give up but substitute it with knives and try "One-day-at-a-time?"
