anyone have a source on decent knife rolls or case that will
Hold 30+ ?iv searched eBay Amazon etc its all China crap

I use the largest case Amazon sells. The one with the turquoise zipper. Well designed. Durable. Does the job. Holds everything from a Buck 110 down to a peanut.

Hickory hill is a fine knife roll.
I believe they're made in the USA.
I've seen some on eBay.

Some knife rolls have elastic that goes bad over time and also will tarnish shields, especially on celluloid knives that are starting to go.

I use the ones That Case puts out there USA Made if you would like I can check and see what the cost is it's not cheap
Holds 42 knives better for me than a roll

Count me among the many who have had knives damaged by knife rolls. Knife rolls originated as a practical method for knife salesmen to carry and display samples to show their customers. Hence the name “salesman’s roll”. The contents were continually unrolled and “aired” when shown to potential buyers. IMHO they were not intended for long-term storage. Some folks, including me, have experienced damage to knives stored in such rolls for extended periods of time. (There were no celluloid knives in the roll, nor in the safe where the roll was stored). Others swear by them. (Since my bad experience I swear at them.) I will not keep knives in a knife roll for more than a few days, but they are handy for transporting and displaying knives at shows and such.

yes i agree the elastic and other chemicals in certain rolls can tarnish knives among other things. they are not recommended for long term storage unless they have been vetted.

Sack-Ups is what I use.

I like the translucent plastic stackable parts boxes with moveable partitions from Harbor Freight. Also shoe boxes, cigar boxes, briefcases/attache cases, and Pistol Cases. Also good to leave a few around on any and every horizontal surface on the property. Also in the glove compartments, car doors, and tool boxes. And fishing boxes. And coat pockets. And places you may not find them again for a couple years. Just my opinion; works for me.

Joan gave me a bunch of these about 20 years ago when I was doing shows. Case "Knife Protector" rolls. They hold eighteen, up to 5 inch knives and are very tough and protective. I've never stored knives in them because I display all my knives but they are really great for transporting. They feel like heavy poly-cotton and have two-position Velcro closer buttons and a draw string. J.O'.

Those are SFO Sackups, with the Case logo. The cloth is impregnated with silicone. Can’t beat them for storage IMO. I believe the company originally used the same material to make protective sleeves for storing firearms - now they make them for both firearms and knives among other things. Www.Sackups.com.

The Hickory Hill rolls mentioned above work very well. The elastic does not deteriorate and the cloth lining has no adverse effects on handles, blades or bolsters. I have stored knives in H.H. rolls for the last 15 years.
As i have sold off most of my knives i have a bunch of H.H. rolls i could sell but cost of postage has to be taken into account.

I looked online and cannot find a single retailer with a Hickory Hill knife roll for sale. I checked ebay and there are 4 listings for a H.H. knife roll. Three are B.I.N. with prices from $125 to $150. One listing is an auction and is at $86 with 4 days to go.
The Hickory Hill knife rolls i had for sale are all basically in 'as new' condition and i bought them new for about $55 each some years ago.
I just sold 7 of these knife rolls for $25 each. If this is more than you want to spend i doubt you will ever manage to get one of these excellent quality knife rolls.
Does anyone know if "Hickory Hill" is no longer in business ?

Interesting that folks will spend hundreds or thousands of dollars for knives but somehow spending about $2 - $3 per knife for a good protective storage method is too expensive.

A Sackup brand knife roll that holds 18 knives can be bought new for about $25-$30 depending where you buy it. 18 knives that cost just $10 each, by my country boy math is a $180 investment. At $20 each, a $380 investment, and so on, but the knife roll still costs the same and will last as long as the knives.

I totally understand those who want to display their collection and don’t want to use knife rolls. But if you want a knife roll, spend the money for a good one. A cheap one is false economy.

Yes, absolutely true. But, good quality knife rolls are hard to find. I have tried a variety of inexpensive knife rolls and the elastic straps loose their elasticity within a year and some have liner material that breaks down and tarnishes bolsters & shields. The Hickory Hill rolls are the only 'good' ones i ever found.
Sack ups are excellent but you cannot see the knives by just opening the roll. If Hickory Hill is out of business then there are no good storage rolls being sold that i am aware of. I guess this is why these H.H. rolls are now selling for over $100 used.

All of the Hickory Hill knife rolls i have seen hold 60 knives. I have never seen one that held only 18 knives. Maybe a mistake in the listing ?

I just went back for a 2nd look Joe, and sure enough, you're right! There is the one I saw on auction, now up to $130., and 2 others with similar B.I.N. prices, and all 3 have 60 knife capacities. I think maybe I got them mixed up with Sack-Ups!
